Yurtsauna

What is yurtsauna

The yurt sauna has been built using traditional methods. A yurt is a round Mongolian structure covered with felted wool blankets woven from sheep’s wool. The sauna is heated by two wood-fired stoves. The benches are wide, and the sauna can accommodate 12–15 people at a time. The löyly is vigorous and soft and the structure “breathes,” making it a safe and relaxing place to unwind and enjoy the sauna.

Yurtsauna is a Saunatemppeli

Saunatemppeli is a community-based sauna operating in Tampere. It sees the sauna as a space for quiet reflection, encounters, and strengthening one’s relationship with nature. Its activities draw from the Finnish sauna tradition and aim to nurture the sauna as a living, evolving cultural practice. For us, Saunatemppeli is not primarily a building, but a way of gathering and becoming still together in the warmth of the sauna, honoring the surrounding nature and purification also at an inner level.

More information about Saunatemppeli, including the various sauna rituals held in the yurt sauna, can be found at: https://www.saunatemppeli.fi/
